On 26 September 1983, Australia did the impossible, coming from behind to claim victory in the America's Cup. It was the first time the Yanks had been beaten in the event's 132 year history. A true underdog moment. And one that will always be remembered with then Prime Minister Bob Hawke unofficially gave the nation the day off, proudly exclaiming on national TV, "Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum."

A couple of years into the Hawke's journey, we knew we had to celebrate this moment with a beer of its own. Hence, Hawke's Underdog was born. But after three consecutive AIBA Gold Medal wins, our hand has been forced. It can no longer be called the Underdog.
Introducing Hawke's Mid Lager. The same award-winning liquid but with a new name. And yep, we're aware the younger generation now uses the word 'mid' to describe something average. But to us, it'll always mean mid-strength. And in this case, one that punches well above its weight.
Special cheers to all our retail partners who have supported the (re)launch of Hawke's Mid Lager. From our independent bottleshop mates, to the teams at Dan Murphy's and BWS, who continue to put Good Honest Beer in the fridges of their stores.
From the brewer’s mouth:
A single hop addition of Amarillo gives way to a gentle sweet citrus on the nose and palate, while the hallmark lager profile packs a crisp, light malt finish to satisfy any thirst.
ABV: 3.5% | IBU: 30
